The Centre for Study Tours

The Centre for Study Tours organizes special interest holidays in Berdun, a small village in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees.

The area of Berdún remains an unspoilt part of Spain, rich in bird-life, wild flowers and butterflies, as well as fine Romanesque and vernacular architecture.

The village is centrally placed for excursions to the high Pyrenean valleys and to such sites as San Juan de la Peña, the castle of Loarre, or the Ordesa National Park.

The Centre for Study Tours at Berdun is a congenial and comfortable venue dedicated to organizing tours since 1971. It consists of two large Aragonese houses, with beamed ceilings, richly coloured tiled floors, white-washed walls, and wonderful views over the valley.

The houses have been adequately restored and modernised, but they still retain their original structure and unique atmosphere.

All rooms are spacious, tastefully furnished, and cool in summer. Each has a wash-basin and a complete annexed bathroom (a few steps from the room). There is also adequate central heating for the colder months.

The large and comfortable lounge, with its own self-service bar, specialist library, map room, access to Internet, projection facilities, and masses of previous tour-reports, provides the ideal surroundings for considering the day's activities, and for conversation and relaxation.

The river Aragón valley where Berdún is placed runs from East to West, perpendicular to the high mountain valleys of Roncal, Fago, Hecho, Ansó, Aísa, and Canfranc.

Berdún is also on the Camino de Santiago mediaeval pilgrimage route, and is not far from such historical sites as Jaca, San Juan de la Peña, or Loarre.

John Boucher, who knows the area and its people intimately, can help organize holidays to Berdun, accompanying groups to sites where necessary.

Meals are taken in the local restaurant, El Rincón de Emilio, Emilio being an excellent Catalan cook who provides generous menus, wine included.

Transport, both to the nearest airport and for local outings, can also be organized by us. However, these basic guidelines can be modified by agreement, and we are open to any other suggestions on how to organize a visit.
