For Spain this site not only describes the birds and importance of the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema, but also allows the visitor to view all the necessary information to construct a holiday to the area. You will find links to local Hotels, Guesthouses and Villas together with information on Airports, Car Hire and the best way to find the area by road. We have also included links to other activity companies operating within the area (some also outside of this area in the Straits of Gibraltar).
Primarily, the driving force behind the site´s conception has been the urgent need to conserve the Serrania and Sierra and it´s abundant wildlife. Encouraging visits to the area by all interested in wildlife will promote the economic argument of wildlife tourism and add it to the conservation cause. A very sad and harsh reality to the times we live in is the importance of money to all aspects of conservation. It becomes far and away easier to convince people to conserve wildlife, if we can demonstrate its importance to the local economy! An illustrated book for the birds of the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema is available for 12 euros plus postage & packaging (see OrniRonda Publications). The book gives individual status, times of year when the many different birds are here and lists bird names in Spanish, English and Latin. All photographs and checklists can be used from this site, provided written permission is given by us (contact us) and acknowledgement is given to their source i.e. www.spanishbirds.com .
