VivaGredos

Circo de Gredos in AutumnSelf catering holiday rental property for up to 12 people in the Sierra de Gredos mountain range, situated in the province of Avila, Castilla y Leon, central Spain. The Gredos mountains offer fantastic year round opportunities for walking, trekking, scrambling, cycling, climbing, mountain biking, horse riding, bird watching and ice climbing. For the less active there are beautiful rivers for lazing by and swimming in during the summer months. Rural tourism is increasingly popular and this area of hidden Spain has much to offer people seeking a holiday away from the Costas. Hoyos del Espino is in the heart of the mountains, surrounded by unspoilt countryside, and it is here that we can offer a traditional village house, Casa Tío Juan, to rent that will comfortably accommodate 12 (twelve) people (although the house is also ideal for 6, 7, 8, 9, 10  or 11). The large living/dining room has plenty of comfortable seating and a dining table that will seat up to 16. The accommodation is ideal for families, groups or clubs and is equipped with the outdoor enthusiast in mind.

For those who prefer touring it provides a good base for exploring several historical towns and cities, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites Toledo, Avila, Salamanca, Segovia, El Escorial, Guadalupe and Caceres. Extremadura, Candeleda and La Vera are at the southern side of the Sierra de Gredos with superb birdwatching locations such as Monfragüe. Also accessible are the cities of the Conquistadores - Trujillo, Caceres and Plasencia which are on the Ruta de Plata (Silver Route).

The Sierra de Gredos mountains (featured in Trail magazine in June 2004), still as yet an unspoilt wild area, form part of the Sistema Central and are ideal for those interested in nature, botany, geology and geography, whether for enjoyment or a field trip. Frederic Grunfeld, in his book "Wild Spain", says "to my mind there are no more dramatic mountains in Spain than the Sierra de Gredos". The Parque Regional de la Sierra de Gredos (Gredos Regional Park) covers some 86,236 hectares (213,098 acres) and is a natural paradise. If you are looking for the real Spain and not a villa with pool on the Costas then this is the place for you!

If you want we can also help you arrange the many activities available locally with bilingual support if necessary. For walkers and trekkers we can provide suggested itineraries, including map packs, or accompanied walks. For mountaineers and climbers we can provide information on peaks and climbing areas. Locally based English speaking guides are available for walking, birdwatching and nature walks. In the house there is plenty of information about places to visit and things to do including English language guides to various tourist destinations, a glossary to help with eating out and details of local swimming locations.

The village, Hoyos del Espino, is accessible via public transport from Madrid and Avila, and local taxis can be arranged for drop offs and pick ups for walkers.
