The flowers are elegantly dispersed along a medium to tall stem. The petals and sepals are narrow, pointed and pure white with a yellow mark inside the main lip. The leaves are long and narrow attached up the stem to the first flower on alternate sides. There are no smaller bracts with the flowers.

This orchid grows on calcareous soils on woodland margins in semi shade. It can be found in grasses in woodland clearings up to a altitude of 2000m.

Synonyms: Cephalanthera ensifolia, Cephalanthera xyphophylla

These images of orchids were taken in Southern Spain, many terrestrial species are widespread from the Iberian peninsular eastwards through the Mediterranean region.
