Paper White Narcissus Height: 35cm Colour: White Family: Liliaceae = Lily There are around 50 forms of wild narcissi, mostly from the western Mediterranean region. One that is easy to identify is the pure white “Paper white” that has a small central cup or trumpet. The starry flowers are borne in impressive clusters of two to twenty on tall stems on this perennial, bulbous plant. The fragrant flowers begin to open around January and may continue until April, fading as it becomes hotter. The long thin, upright leaves have a bluish tone and can form dense clumps as the bulbs multiply. These clumps can be seen on roadsides, banks and even in cultivated fields. This is a flower which has become popular as a potted plant for home decoration in cooler climes, as the bulbs can be forced for Christmas flowering.
