Welcome to Horta das canas.
A self catering house to rent for those who love to walk, bike or drive around into the hills, from here on, there is just nature with sand tracks and small pathways winding up north towards the province of the Alentejo.
*The Accommodation*
Horta de Canas has been restored with loving care and quality over a long period of time. Thus it has become a very special place. It is quiet, pretty and comfortable whilst the feeling of nature and life is all around you.
A perfect place to take time off and relax surrounded by the many birds, bees, crickets, frogs goats, cats and other animals that live around and on the land. Because of it’s quietness and tranquillity this place is well suited for composers or writers and is a perfect base for people who love to walk, bike or explore the hills and valleys.

*Beaches*
There are plenty of beaches all along the south coast and in the east Algarve they are more or less islands with a marsh creating nature reserves in between shore and beach that are incredible for bird watching and the general enjoyment of nature.
Take a little fisherman's boat or ferry for as little as 1 Euro and enjoy the quiet marshes (called the Ria Formosa). There is very little summer "beach tourism" in this part of the Algarve.
We highly recommend the beaches of Cacela Velha and Fabrica, Lota, Barril, the Island of Tavira and Pedras del Rei. Also the Island of Culatra next to Olhão.
The cliffs and rough ocean of the west coast from Sagres up to the Aljezur is also worth visiting.
