Right on the bank of the river Dão between Coimbra and Viseu, we have five lovely restored farmhouses offering peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, with magnificent views over the river and the old town of Santa Comba Dão.
Rooms, cottages or apartments with free use of canoes. Bed and breakfast or self catering.
At a short distance away are the highest mountains of Portugal, The Serra da Estrela, the Serra do Caramulo , the national park of Bussaco and the cities of Coimbra and Viseu
We have complete and detailed descriptions available, of some lovely trails in the Beira Alta of Portugal.
* Walking in the Serra do Açor
* Walking in the Serra do Bussaco
* Walking in the Serra do Caramulo
* Walking in the Serra da Estrela

Canoeing near Quinta do Rio Dão.
Because the river Dão near Quinta do Rio Dão makes part of the artificial lake of Aguieira, you will not notice any current.
River up. After about 2 km river up you will pass the little village Granjal and after that there are no roads on both sides of the river and you will only see nature and all kinds of birds. The river becomes smaller and smaller and maybe you will reach a little granith dam, with an old abandoned water mill, but it could also be that you cross it without noticing, when the river is high. Notice that even in summer you are the only one on the river (probably).
River down First you will pass Santa Comba Dão and suddenly you are on a big lake, surrounded by forest. One could think of Sweden, but with an other climate. If you go a little further the River Criz is coming in at your right and further on at you left, the River Mondego. It's not difficult, but remember your way.
We have all kinds of life jackets; please use them!
Beside canoes we have also kayaks, a rowing boat and windsurf boards available.
Canoes, kayaks and rowing boat can be used for free.
Alternative-energy!
We are very proud to be able to say that almost the whole Quinta runs on solar power, not only for warm water, but for electricity as well. Thanks to a small power plant, supplied by the sun, and the use of low-energy equipment (pumps, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, TVs, lamps etc.) you will have the same comfort as you are used to. In longer periods of clouded weather or very high energy consumption a generator will take care of a continuous supply.
