We, your hosts, are William and Ilana Richards. Originally from England and Holland, we came to live in Portugal to pursue our dream of riding the Lusitano horse in this little corner of paradise. Together with our team of professional, multilingual guides and instructors we cater to your every need, providing week long trail rides or short stays.
Trails
We offer three different types of trail weeks, aside from special shorter rides. The Blue Coast, Mira Atlantic and Mira Summer weeks.The Mira Atlantic offers 4-6 hours per day in the saddle and is half board including two evening meals. The Blue Coast is for the more experienced rider, with more hours in the saddle and is half board, including two evening meals. The Mira Summer runs in the summer months and also offers 4-6 hours in the saddle and is full board.
Our Horses
Named after the Roman name for Portugal, the Lusitano horse is an ancient breed from this area. It is thought to be one of the first horses ever to be ridden. It was improved through careful breeding during the glory days of Portugal, and was their secret weapon in the development of the empire. We use well-schooled pure or crossbreds, carefully selected and trained for trail riding. They are between 15 and 16 hands (1.50 -1.70m), are sure footed and very good natured. We ride with English style endurance saddles, snaffle bridles and provide saddle bags. All the highest European horse care standards are maintained. We select routes to give a good variety of landscapes and plenty of opportunities for long trots and canters. |
