Introduction: Quinta do RabacalThe 4 hectares of Quinta do Rabacal provide the perfect environment for relaxing family holidays throughout the spring and summer months. Full Description: Positioned right beside the beautiful Mondego River, it is ideally placed for walking, fishing, canoeing and riding activities for all the family. Children really appreciate the opportunities that the quinta offers, be it exploring the river, feeding the animals or playing in the swimming pool. Free canoes are available to guests and, in the summer months before the water level falls too much, great fun can be had just messing about on the river. Fishing equipment is available and the river provides quality carp and barbel fishing throughout the year. Photographers are also well catered for with free use of tripods, monopods and other equipment. There are also a couple of small hides situated at strategic points along the river bank and there is a free bottle of Port waiting for anyone who leaves the quinta without a picture of an otter, a kingfisher or a kite that they are not proud of! Free painting and drawing materials are also available for those who like to spend a few relaxing hours creating their own impression of the beautiful countryside. There is wireless internet and a laptop dedicated to guests’ use, so keeping in touch with family and friends or planning day trips present no problems. The self-catering accommodation consists of three traditional granite houses (sleeping 6+) and a wooden chalet (2+2), each with its own special character and charm. Linked by a pretty cobbled lane, the houses are well equipped and comfortably furnished and each affords wonderful views over the river. The heart of the quinta is the communal sitting area, complete with its traditional bread oven, which is also nowadays used to make pizzas. Solar power provides enough energy for everyday requirements and there is a back-up generator for use when necessary. Water comes from a natural well and a borehole provides cover during any summer shortages. The quinta’s situation between the towns of Tabua and Oliveira do Hospital gives it great access to the national road network and many excellent day trip venues are within easy reach including the university city of Coimbra, the ancient Roman settlement at Conimbriga and the beautiful forests and gardens of Buçaco. Holidays and long term lets are also available in the autumn and winter for anyone that appreciates natural beauty and tranquillity, ideal for artists, photographers, writers etc. and, again, the quinta’s situation makes it the perfect hub for people who are looking to purchase their very own paradise in central Portugal.
