The centre of town is only a 3 or 4 minute stroll where there is a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants and you can experience the life and culture of a traditional Spanish market town. This diversity of this little-known corner of Spain is quite unique. A major river, craggy mountain ranges rising up from a fertile green river valley, historic cities with Roman remains, medieval villages, a river delta with rice paddies and Mediterranean beaches are all within easy reach of your holiday accommodation. The Ebro itself is a magnet to anglers who come for the challenge of catching the legendary monster catfish and specimen carp. Guided fishing by boat is available or you can just enjoy a quiet few hours on the riverbank. There are no less than 3 Natural Parks within easy reach - east of the valley is the imposing mountain range of Montsant and to the west the dramatic Els Ports mountains. Both areas have breathtaking landscapes and are rich in flora and fauna including the Spanish Ibex, Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle and Griffon Vultures. The third Natural Park is the Ebro Delta one of the most important Mediterranean wetland areas which is home to over 300 species of birds including the rare Audouin's Gull. All 3 Natural Parks as well the river valley and the other mountain ranges have an intricate network of walking trails. We can supply our guests with recommended walking and birding routes and maps. If you prefer we can arrange guided tours with professionals who have a wealth of knowledge about the natural environment and the history and geography of the areas. In addition to its natural beauty this area is also rich in history and culture. In the nearby cities of Tarragona, Reus and Tortosa you can see Modernist architecture, Roman remains, and Gothic cathedrals. The vibrant city of Barcelona is only a 2 hour drive or train journey a worthwhile day-trip or ideal to combine a city break with a few days in the country. Please take a look at our website for more details about this beautiful area of Catalonia and feel free to contact us for more information.
