Website: http://www.walkingextremadura.com   Bedrooms: Two Bathrooms: Two Sleeps: Four People Accommodations: Village Accommodation, Self Catering Activities: Bird watching, Botany, Cycling, General nature, Hiking, Painting, Photography, Walking Introduction: Walking Extremadura is a special experience at any time of the year. Visit the web site for information on Extremadura, where to go, what to do, how to get here, accommodation at 'la Casa del Limonero' in the Sierra de Montánchez AND walking routes complete with maps, GPS points, information and photographs. Full Description:

Walking Extremadura is, first and foremost, about walking in the last great undiscovered rural expanse in western Europe. The diversity of Extremadura makes it a wonderful place to walk. It has only 24 people per sq. km. - that's plenty of room to breathe. Discerning visitors from crowded parts of Europe are in for a pleasant surprise. There are forest and wilderness areas where a person can walk all day and see only birds and other wildlife. Yet the region is criss-crossed with thousands of kilometres of tracks and footpaths. Some of these are Roman and still paved with the original granite slabs. Many people have heard of the famous 'Ruta de la Plata' thinking it refers to the route the Conquistador silver took from Cadiz to Extremadura. However, 'Plata' comes from an Arabic word meaning 'paved'. History is everywhere.

We specialize in walking routes that have been walked personally, mapped and logged with GPS points. We provide full descriptions of a wide variety of walks for all levels of fitness, taking in everything from meadows and mountains, villages and forests, rivers and lakes. If you like to walk freely and discover routes for yourself we can provide maps and point you vaguely in a direction. If you like a little more help we can suggest routes, create itineraries and provide special interest themes. Our area of expertise is wild flowers and history. There is nowhere quite like Extremadura for wild flowers in the Spring. As for the history - it is all around. Walking in the footsteps of history is unavoidable.

We offer self-catering accommodation in the lovely Sierra de Montánchez.

'La Casa del Limonero' is an older house in the village of Almoharín, in the Sierra de Montánchez. It has a spacious, modern kitchen/diner with doors folding out on to the large flower-filled private patio where the lemon tree grows that gives the house its name. There is a sitting room/hall in the traditional Spanish style, a cosy study with a wood burning stove (that can double up as additional bedroom space), and a double bedroom with adjoining dressing room. The bathroom is fully equipped with a laundry area next door with a new washing machine (May 2010). Upstairs there is a very large salon with a second wood burning stove, huge double bedroom and second bathroom complete with bath and two showers.

The house has a Broadband connection for unlimited use by visitors - if you can bear to be inside and not out walking!

Although 'la Casa del Limonero' is self-catering we do offer a range of additional services, on request, to make your holiday special:

• pick up and drop off at Cáceres, Mérida or Plasencia train or bus station or Trujillo or Miajadas bus station

• guided walks in the stunning countryside

• special wild flower walks in Spring

• guided history walks in Cáceres, Mérida and Trujillo

• drop off and pick up at the start and end of linear walks

• special interest itinerary suggestions

We look forward to seeing you and for you to be Walking Extremadura!
